In a world that rarely pauses, 2026 is shaping up to be the year of the quietcation. As travellers increasingly seek meaningful rest over relentless itineraries, a new wave of hushpitality is redefining luxury – placing space, stillness and soulful service at its heart. At Lympstone Manor, on the Exe Estuary, this movement finds its natural home.
Set within 28 acres of woodland, vineyard and estuary shoreline, our Michelin-starred, Two Michelin Key country house hotel offers more than a stay; it offers a slowing down. Here, the rhythm of the tides replaces notifications, birdsong greets the morning and service is delivered with thoughtful subtlety. It is hospitality that anticipates without interrupting – a hallmark of true hushpitality.

This year, we launched a new programme of nature-led events designed to answer the growing desire for digital detox and restorative travel. Creative watercolours workshops, nature walks, sculpture and poetry walks, a Book Butler and restorative stays on the Exe Estuary form the foundation of our Quietcations stays, inviting guests to reconnect with landscape, nature and their own creativity.
Under the direction of Chef Owner Michael Caines MBE, Quietcations bring together intimate experiences rooted in Devon’s natural beauty. Guests can take part in watercolour workshops capturing winter skies or estuary birds in motion, join our sculpture and poetry walks through the grounds, or explore one of the UK’s most important bird habitats with guided nature experiences led by local Countryside Manager James Chubb.

Accommodation plays a central role in the quietcation ethos. Within the Grade II listed Manor, 21 individually designed rooms and suites, named after the birds of the Exe Estuary, frame sweeping estuary views and changing light. For deeper seclusion, our woodland Shepherd Huts offer immersion in nature, complete with outdoor bathtubs or wood-fired hot tubs, fire pits and hand-painted interiors inspired by the local wildlife. Whether staying in the Heron Suite or tucked away in Otter Holt, guests are enveloped in space, privacy and calm.

One of the most charming elements of our Quietcations is the introduction of the Book Butler service. Guests select a title before arrival and find it waiting in their room – the perfect invitation to settle in, switch off devices and embrace a true digital detox. Creative workshops, nature walks, poetry walks, a Book Butler and restorative stays on the Exe Estuary combine to create a stay where time feels expansive and deeply personal.
Days unfold gently. A stroll along the Sculpture Walk, which follows the route of the historic Lady’s Walk. A glass of Lympstone Manor Estate wine overlooking the 17,500-vine vineyard, and the Exe estuary. A swim in the heated outdoor pool. Michelin-starred dining that celebrates Devon’s seasonal bounty, served at a pace that mirrors the landscape itself. Evenings conclude with estuary sunsets and expansive skies.

As the travel landscape evolves, the quietcation trend signals a return to what luxury was always meant to be: attention to detail, intuitive service, connection to place and the rare gift of uninterrupted time. At Lympstone Manor, hushpitality is not a concept, it is a way of being.
