Our Charities

Charities

Across the Michael Caines Collection, Michael and the teams support a number of charities through fundraising events, discretionary charity donations across all of our restaurant bills, and through Michael’s own work associated with the charities as Patron. Here are some of the charities we are working with this year:

Exeter Chiefs Foundation

Exeter Chiefs Foundation is a fundraising organisation committed to improving the prosperity of the communities they serve by making donations that make people’s lives better.

All of the money raised is donated to worthy causes in and around the city of Exeter with a focus on supporting ‘tangible’ investments. These have included funding building and renovation works, the installation of play equipment, IT suites, a range of vehicles – from minibuses to boats, community kitchen hubs, specialised access equipment to name but a few.

Founded by Exeter Rugby club Chairman Tony Rowe CBE, the team of trustees is drawn from the Chiefs board of directors and the business community, and Michael sits on the Board of Trustees.

National Trust

Lympstone Manor and the National Trust hold many of the same values, with their passion for the landscape, wildlife and preservation. Devon is home to some amazing National Trust properties and estates, with the closest A La Ronde just under 1 mile away.

Down’s Syndrome Association

The Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) is the only charity in the UK dealing with all aspects of Down’s syndrome. Its aim is to help people who have Down’s syndrome to live full and rewarding lives.

The work of the Down’s Syndrome Association is wide ranging and constantly evolving. The people they work with come from a wide range of perspectives: people who have Down’s syndrome themselves, parents and carers, wider family and friends, people working in health and education and a host of other professionals and the general public.

Calvert Trust

The mission of the Calvert Trust is to enable people with disabilities to achieve their potential through the challenge of adventurous activities, to improve the understanding of disability, and to encourage the integration of disabled and able-bodied across society to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside.

Exeter Leukaemia fund

Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF)’s vision is that every family affected by blood cancer and blood disorders across Devon receives compassionate, tailored support. Blood cancer can affect anybody of any age and over 3,000 people will be diagnosed with a haematological cancer this year in the South West. ELF supports families from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond, with services including transport, accommodation, counselling, aromatherapy, equipment, financial and legal services.

RLNI

“The RLNI is entrenched in our coastal communities, and it’s made up of volunteers who give up their time to save lives at sea. I’m particularly conscious of their important work. Lympstone Manor Hotel overlooks the River Exe and Mickeys Beach Bar and Restaurant is located directly on the waterfront. So for me, this awareness of the dangers of the sea, makes the RNLI a fantastic and logical choice of charity to support. As a Chef, I’m also especially aware of how the charity safeguards our fishing industry around our coastline, particularly out of Brixham and here in Exmouth, with trawlers going out to sea sure in the knowledge that the RNLI is there if they get into difficulty on the water. It’s a charity that is very close to our hearts and very important here on our coastline – the work that they do deserves all the support and funds we can raise and I’m very grateful to our customers for this amazing response.”

HOSPITALITY ACTION

Whether you work in hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars or cafés, schools, hospitals or event venues, Hospitality Action are here to give you the help, advice and support you need whenever times get tough. Whatever challenge you face – from physical illness or mental health issues to financial difficulty, family problems to addiction – Hospitality Action is here to get you back on your feet again. And when it’s no longer possible to work, we can help you prepare for the next phase of your life.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION POPPY APPEAL

The poppy became a symbol of remembrance and hope for a peaceful future in the aftermath of the First World War. The red poppy is worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces communities across the UK, Allied Forces and the Commonwealth with funds raised going to their vital support of these communities.

movember

Our teams across the Hotel have been growing moustaches each November in support of Movember and so we have decided to make it one of our official charities. Whether mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer, the  – Movember charity are taking them all on. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up research and motivating men to take action for their health.

FARMS FOR CITY CHILDREN

Children’s author Michael Morpurgo and his wife Clare founded Farms for City Children at Nethercott House in Devon in 1976. The charity offers urban children from all over the country a unique opportunity to live and work together for a week at a time on a real farm in the heart of the countryside. It is an intense, ‘learning through doing’ experience of a different life that is particularly relevant– for children who may not know where their food comes from and have limited opportunities to explore the outside world or the countryside.
