Sitting outdoors by the pool on a summer evening, the smell of food being cooked over a wood fire, looking out across the vineyard, glass of wine in hand, and watching sun set over the hills beyond: it could be a wine estate in the south of Italy, or in Sicily . . or it could be Lympstone Manor on 10th September for our Italian Summer Festa d’Estate.
Lympstone Manor in summer is one of the most magical and idyllic places you will ever find. On long summer evenings, as the sun slowly sets over the Exe estuary, painting the sky in spectacular hues of yellow, red, and orange, and overlooking rows of manicured vines on which the grapes are just beginning to swell, you could almost imagine that you are in Italy.
To celebrate this special moment of the year, we are having an outdoor Italian summer festa d’estate around the Pool House Restaurant focussed this year on the flavours, foods and wines of Sicily.
To fully enjoy the Lympstone Manor experience, we suggest you arrive early, anytime from 6pm. Bring your swimwear if you fancy a dip first, maybe try a game of bocce – Italian bowls (we’ll explain how to play), or have a stroll around the vineyard, through the Sculpture Walk, or admire our grounds.
The plan is for this to be an outdoor occasion utilising our outdoor kitchen so that as sun sets and night falls, we will be under the stars (perhaps with rugs on our laps). But on the other hand, while we understand that those late summer evenings that we all remember and yearn for so fondly should be always warm and dry, we know realistically that the weather (yes, these days in Italy as much as here in Devon) can be changeable, so there will always be the option to move indoors into the comfort of the Pool House Restaurant.
The evening will be hosted by Marc Millon, Italian Wine Ambassador and author of Italy in a Wineglass – the taste of history.
Festa d’estate – our Italian Festa – sold out last year so be sure to reserve your places now!
