Since making his first team debut against London Welsh in November 2012, the Plymouth-born Henry Slade has been a central figure in the rise of the Chiefs. With over 200 appearances for the Exeter Chiefs, Slade has excelled for both club and country.
A former pupil of Plymouth College, Slade was part of the Chiefs Academy from a young age and grew up alongside the likes of Luke Cowan-Dickie, Sam Hill and Jack Nowell. Together the quartet were all part of the England Under 20s side that lifted the Junior World Championship against Wales in 2012. In the years that have followed, Slade not only established himself as a regular in the Chiefs first team, but his on-field form saw him win numerous honours, including the LV= Cup and Aviva Premiership title, and the RPA’s Young Player of the Year award in 2015.
Although still capable of filling in at fly-half, Slade has established himself as a world class centre for both Chiefs and England, whom he featured for at Rugby World Cups and helped to Six Nations and Autumn Nations Cup glory.
Join Henry and Michael for an evening of sporting anecdotes and rugby tales uniquely paired with Michael’s famed cuisine.
The evening is in aid of the Exeter Chiefs Foundation, a fundraising organisation committed to improving the prosperity of the communities they serve by incorporating sport and donations in their work to enrich people’s lives. It exists with a key aim of helping other charities.
All money raised by Exeter Chiefs Foundation is donated to worthy causes in and around the city of Exeter with a focus on supporting ‘tangible’ investments. Since its creation, the projects the Foundation has supported have included funding building and renovation works, the installation of play equipment, IT suites, and donating a range of vehicles – from minibuses to boats, from community kitchen hubs to specialised access equipment.
Founded in 2011 by Exeter Rugby Club’s Chairman, Tony Rowe CBE, the team of trustees was drawn from the Exeter Chiefs board of directors and the local business community. As well as deciding on how the charity’s money is shared, the trustees organise several fundraising events each year to add to the funds generated by the wider foundation from which people and projects can apply for grants.
All charities, community groups and organisations in the greater Exeter area can apply for funds – either as a matchday charity or as one-off donations through the Foundation’s grant programme.
The Foundation to date has raised close to £3million and helped over 150 projects, charities, and organisations.
