India’s cuisine is as diverse as it’s population, with its cultural identity heavily influenced by its religious and regional differences. Whilst Indian food can sometimes be stereotyped by western nations as being spicy and or hot the reality is that there is so much more to experience. Curry style dishes that we are familiar with are a combination of stew like dishes and rice which are simply a derived British interpretation of Indian cuisine, even curry powder was a British creation, a blend of spices put together by colonial cooks.

It is true however that one of the most interesting things relating to Indian cuisine is without doubt its very diverse use of spices. Indian spice mixes often use in excess of five spices or more depending on the dish including cardamom, coriander, turmeric, fenugreek, cinnamon, clove, ginger, mustard, mint…and the list goes on! One third of the entire country only eat vegetarian food which is almost 400 million people and dictated by their Hindu, Buddhist or Jain faiths.

Michael has been inspired by the cultural and culinary diversity and developed an exciting menu with several of his chefs that hail from India and has leaned on their wealth of experience. Steve Edwards has found some very interesting food and wine pairings for the dinner, with some examples from Akluj located south east of Mumbai.

The evening will commence at 7.00pm with canapés and an arrival drink, taking seats at 7.30pm in the in the Pool House dining area for a good time and some delicious food. We look forward to welcoming you to Lympstone Manor.
