Languedoc-Roussillon Wine Dinner

-19th May-

This Spring we are delighted to be pairing Michael Caines’s exquisite cuisine with the wines of the Languedoc-Roussillon, a vast area of vineyard which stretches from the Franco-Spanish border on the Mediterranean coastline all the way round to Provence covering a vast vineyard area of some 246,000 hectares making it not only the largest wine producing area in France but in the world.

There is no doubt that the entire region has shown a marked improvement in terms of the quality of its wine production in recent decades with the emergence of some exciting new winemakers which really do compliment the more traditional and established properties. Overall it is a relatively warm and dry region with a very definitive Mediterranean climate and whilst the vineyards of the Languedoc are mostly situated on the coastal plains the Roussillon vines are to be found on steep hill tops or in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

There are a myriad of different wine styles and a raft of different grape types to choose from including the wonderful sparkling wines from the Limoux, the elegant whites from Collioure, the rich and generous reds from Minervois and Corbières, the fabulous “vins doux naturels” fortified sweet wines from Rivesaltes or the less well known but equally delicious sweet reds from Maury or Banyuls.

Our Sommelier team will match a selection of stunning wines with Michaels seasonal menu which showcase the very best examples from a number of the top appellations and producers in this large and diverse wine region. You will be guided through the dinner by good friend Phil Barnet from Les Cave de Pyrene who are specialists in this area of France, Phil will present each wine before the relevant course is served.

The evening will commence at 6.30 pm with canapés and a glass of wine upon arrival, with guests taking seats at 7.00 pm in one of our elegant dining rooms for a superbly matched menu designed by Michael and prepared by our kitchen team.
